Blood Pressure - Herbal Remedy for Low & High Blood Pressure Control
Blood pressure is the force of blood against the walls of arteries. Blood pressure is recorded as the systolic pressure over the diastolic pressure. The pressure at which the first pulse sound can be heard is called 'systolic blood pressure'. As the blood pressure in the cuff is decreased, the pulse sounds continue to be heard for a while and then they disappear again. The pressure level after the disappearance of sound is called the 'diastolic pressure'. In normal persons, systolic pressure is less than 120 mm Hg and diastolic pressure is less than 80 mm Hg. But in case of high blood pressure, systolic pressure can be more than 160 mm Hg and diastolic pressure is also more than 100 mm Hg. In other words, blood pressure is the pressure by which the blood is circulated in the blood vessels of our body. The pressure to move the blood is supplied by the heart and circulation of blood takes place throughout the body. The arteries have elastic walls and these provide some resistance to the flow of blood. This eventually leads to pressure in the system and even between heart beats. Normal blood pressure changes occur during the day. It mostly rises when a person get excited, nervous or suddenly active. There is no known specific cause for blood pressure.
'Hypertension' is the medical term for high blood pressure and it is known as the 'silent killer'. Although no initial symptoms persist, but it can lead to chronic disease and other related complications. The risk of death due to heart attack is directly linked to high blood pressure. The higher the blood pressure, the higher the risk. Risk factors associated with high blood pressure include old age, family history, heredity, obesity, sodium salt sensitivity, alcohol abuse, oral contraceptive pills, lack of physical exercise, certain drugs (amphetamines) etc.
It has also been observed that people with high blood pressure may develop symptoms such as headache, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, chest pain and breath shortness. It no proper medication is taken, long-term blood pressure can lead to heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure , eye damage with blurred vision, peripheral arterial disease etc. Malignant hypertension can occur in patients, who do not seek medical care and the high blood pressure becomes very severe. Malignant hypertension is associated with headache, nausea, vomiting and stroke like symptoms.
Electrocardiogram or ECG helps to evaluate heart rate and rhythm. If hypertension is long-standing, the heart muscle has to push blood against the increased pressure within the arteries of the body. Losing weight can have dramatic effects in lowering blood pressure. But majority of physicians recommend pharmaceutical drugs for the treatment of high blood pressure. Right diet intake is the best and safest way to maintain blood pressure. Certain food like garlic, vegetables, and fruits can play a very important role in maintaining blood pressure.
